Levy Deputies Investigating
Pet Patrol
Horse Abuse Case
Bronson-On August 31, 2009 Deputy Ella Anderson responded to NE 154 Place and Martin
Road in reference to an abandoned malnourished horse. Witnesses stated the area where
the horse was dumped is a known area for illegal dumping of trash and animal carcasses
(Wild hog and deer). The witnesses advised they drove by this area on August 30, 2009 at
8:30 PM and the horse was not at the location. On August 31, 2009 at 9:15 AM the witness
discovered a brown mare lying on the ground that was malnourished and unable to stand on
her feet.
Deputy Anderson summoned Morgan Silver, the President of Horse Protection
Association of Florida, for expert advice and assistance. Ms. Silver and a veterinarian re-
sponded to the scene and immediately examined the horse. The horse was determined to be
so malnourished the mare had to be euthanized at the scene.
The Levy County Sheriff s Office is asking for the publics help in identifying
the owner of the horse. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest of the
suspect(s). Citizens either contact the Sheriff s Office at 352-486-5111 or they can remain
