Debate Continues Over Inglis Garbage
Remembering the Past
Friday Sept. 19 citizens showed up at the Town of Inglis workshop on solid waste.
A special meeting was to follow if needed. The commission was to discuss a Waste Pro solid
waste collection contract which expires at the end of September.
Clerk Sally McCranie said the commission did not advertise for competitive bids
but wanted to renegotiate the present contract with Waste Pro. An unsolicited bid from FDS
Disposal in Citrus County was turned in which was $10.88 for seniors as opposed to Waste
Pro which was $20.49 for seniors.
Goodfella's, a Sumpter County solid waste collection company has also turned in
an unsolicited bid which for the same senior collection was $18.85 per month. After audi-
ence complaints, the commission adjourned the workshop and opened the special meeting
and voted to place an ad for solicitation of pickup and give any company a chance to bid.
According to Town Clerk Sally McCranie Attorney Bettin is drafting a proposal to
use in the newspaper advertising. The commission will then will meet to discuss the results.
That motion passed. The second agenda item for this meeting was to allow Commissioner
Kesterson to revisit mandatory garbage which the citizens defeated in a referendum March
2013. Kesterson removed the item from the agenda. For more information see "From Inglis
Town Hall" on page 11.
