Crash  - Continued from page 1
Remembering the Past
stated that Mr. Tyndall made no driving actions that contributed to the crash. He was trans-
ferred by Nature Coast EMS to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala. The report stated
that both men wore seatbelts, and neither airbag was deployed during the crash.
According to the FHP, the crash occurred at 4:36 am, as Kennedy was driving the
Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, traveling north on U.S. Hwy. 19 in the outside lane, 781 feet
north of W. Cornflower Dr., and south of the Inglis Barge Canal. The semi truck was travel-
ing south on U.S. Hwy. 19 in the inside lane. For unknown reasons, the Chevy pickup truck
went out of the outside lane onto the east dirt shoulder, then traveled approximately 352 feet
on the east shoulder, over-corrected back onto the northbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 19, then
across the median into the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 19, where the semi truck was trav-
eling. The right side of the Chevy S-10 pickup truck struck the left front of the semi truck,
causing the semi truck to overturn onto its right side. The Chevy S-10 pickup truck came to
rest on the west shoulder of U.S. Hwy.19, facing west, and the semi truck came to rest on its
right side, across the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 19, facing east.
A witness saw the driver (Kennedy) of the Chevy S-10 pickup truck, fleeing the
scene of the crash on foot, headed north on U.S. Hwy.19. FHP Trooper Jeff Sudlow located
Kennedy, "the hit-and-run driver" at U.S. Hwy. 19 and W. Hollinswood Trail at 13:17 pm,
aided by a tip from a witness. At that time, Kennedy was cited on four violations: operating
while driver s license suspended, cancelled or revoked (first conviction); leaving the scene
of a crash, with injury, without rendering aid - a felony; leaving the scene of a crash with
more than $50 in damages without giving information; and failing to drive in single lane. In
addition to damages of $10,000 to the Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck and $500,000 to the semi
truck, a street sign and post was damaged at a replacement cost of $200. The report stated
that Kennedy is not the owner of the vehicle he was driving.
