A Williston man has been arrested, charged with two counts of vehicular homicide
and having no valid driver’s license resulting in death, following a traffic crash, August 27,
in Marion County. Leonel Hernandez-Ocampo, 35, received minor injuries in the crash and
was arrested upon his release from Shand’s Hospital at the University of Florida in Gaines-
ville and transported to the Marion County Jail. The report stated that blood alcohol and
drug testing results are pending, along with additional charges.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash occurred at 11:03
p.m. in Marion County on U.S. Hwy. 27, 0.1 mile south of NW 154th Ave. Rd. Ocampo was
driving a 1998 Jeep UT, traveling north in the left, southbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 27, and
Shelley Mohan-Bell Roberts, 40, of Ocala, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet 4-door car, travel-
ing south in the left travel lane of southbound U.S. Hwy. 27.
The front of Ocampo’s Jeep collided with the front of Roberts’ Chevrolet. Both
vehicles came to rest in the left travel lane of southbound U.S. Hwy. 27. Roberts and her
front-seat passenger, Tracey Lee Roberts, 43, also of Ocala, were both pronounced deceased
on the scene by the Marion County Fire Department. The report stated that all were wearing
seatbelts.
