Vacation a Time
for Re-Charging Part I
With Doug Johnston
My dear wife Kathie and I just got
back from a much needed
vacation in Hazleton, West-
By-God-Virginia. We take
this trip to Kathie’s “other
home” every year, but this
was the first time we actu-

relaxing. We had no children
or grandchildren with us and while it was
somewhat boring at times I have conclud-
ed that boring is nice sometimes.
We left after work on Friday and
took the road less traveled, at least part of
the way. We decided to take US Highway
301 to Statesboro Ga. where we spent the
night. From there we took 301 and an as-
sortment of state roads to Columbia SC.
From there we took I-26 to I-81, where we
spent the night in Bristol Virginia, to I-77
to WV-19 to I-79 to I-68 to Maryland Line
Road, our final destination. Our meander-
ing path encompassed 999 miles and 17.5
hours. We took the straight interstate route
coming home and logged 931 miles and
