Citrus Fire Chief Announces Retirement
Citrus Sheriff Fire Rescue Fire Chief and Public Safety Bureau Chief
Jim Goodworth announced his intent to retire today effective August 4, 2017.
Goodworth has been in the public safety arena for more than 34 years.
"It is with much consideration and a heavy heart that I am submitting my
intent to retire," Goodworth's resignation letter states. "I love my job and I
love the family I work with. That family was extended on October 1, 2011, as
Fire Rescue joined the Citrus County Sheriff s office. In the past five years,
we have made more progress than I would have ever thought possible. The
Sheriff s Office has provided the tools, training and support for us to keep our residents -
and our firefighters - even safer. I felt it important to leave you with these words of gratitude
before my departure from this agency. I have served with pride and I wish the agency the
best of luck in the future."
Sheriff Prendergast accepted Goodworth's resignation with regrets, but with much
gratitude for the selfless service and sacrifices Jim has made throughout his career. In an
