County, July 19, resulted in injuries to the two passengers of the vehicle. According to the
Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 4:50 p.m. when Theresa Marie Mafetone,
42, of Port Richey, was driving a 1996 Lincoln car, traveling south on Hwy. 19 in the left
lane. She traveled into the center grass median and oversteered, causing the car to rotate in
a clockwise direction, move across both southbound lanes of Hwy. 19, onto the west grass
shoulder and strike a tree with the front of the car.
The car came to rest facing south. Mafetone received serious injuries in the crash,
and her passenger, 86 year-old Margaret Bennett of Nekoosa, WI received critical injuries.
Both were transported to Shand’s Hospital in Gainesville. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The report stated that unspecified charges are pending.
