he proceeded into the woods and apprehended Dale Dicks, in a small clearing. The report
stated that Dicks started screaming "You got me! I did it! I did it!," as Zeus had him on his
right shoulder. Dicks was taken into custody. As the arresting deputy attempted to instruct
Dicks to stand up, he pivoted his body, putting his right arm into Zeus s face, and Zeus bit
him again. The K-9 deputy and Zeus backed as far away from Dick as possible, in the small
clearing, the report stated.
Once the deputy was able to get Dicks out of the clearing and into the back yard,
emergency medical services was called to transport him to Seven Rivers Regional Medical
Center for medical treatment.
While waiting on the ambulance, the report stated, Dicks stated that he was stupid
and knew better. When asked if he knew the owners of the residence, he said yes, they were
his neighbors, and he lives around the corner.
At the hospital, Dick told the arresting deputy that he d fallen on hard times and
he d taken a pay cut at work. He knew the victims had plenty of money, so he took the
crowbar and ripped the back screen porch to allow him access to the screen porch. He then
used the pry bar to attempt to gain access to the back door, he said, but that didn t work, so
he tried the farthest east sliding glass door, and when he could not pry it open, he then went
back to the bedroom with the glass center double pane and kicked it out. He told the deputy
that he then reached in and unlocked the door so he could enter the residence. When he
opened the armoire s top drawer, he said, he found two necklaces, $6.80 in dimes, a tennis
bracelet, and a porcelain piggy bank. At that time, he said, he saw the red and blue light,
out back, of the first deputy who arrived on scene as he was about to go through the kitchen
to the front of the residence, so he instead exited through the back door. The report stated,
that when Dick is medically cleared, he will be transported to the Citrus County Detention
Facility.
