Dunnellon Man Injured in Crash
Pet Patrol
A Dunnellon man was critically injured in a car crash in Crystal River on June
23rd, around 2:35 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mr. Paul Neumann, 84,
of Dunnellon, was driving south on Turkey Oak Dr., as he approached Hwy. 44, to proceed
straight across Hwy. 44, when Christopher Miller, 40, of Bennington Oklahoma, who was
driving a 2005 Peterbuilt semi truck, west on Hwy. 44, failed to stop at the red light. The
front of Mr. Miller s truck struck the left side of Mr. Neumann s 2001 Chevy van.
The truck came to rest in the median that is west of the intersection, after striking
a road sign, and the van went onto the north shoulder of the road. Dillon Miller, 18, was
a passsenger in Mr. Miller s semi. Karen Duncan, 54 of Hudson was a passenger in Mr.
Neumann s van. She was taken to Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River,
but her condition was not listed. Mr. Neumann was transported to Tampa General Hospital
in Tampa. The report stated that all four of the passengers in the two vehicles were wearing
seatbelts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

two GIS technicians from the Engineering Division; a utility field/CADD technician from
Water Resources Department; and a senior planner from the Community Development Di-
vision.
The administration has also significantly reduced positions this year for cost ef-
ficiency, cutting 40 in April. The current budget began with 29 less approved budgeted
positions than the previous year and so with the cutbacks, the county will have gone from
698 approved budgeted positions in the 2007-2008 budget to 617 in the current 2008-2009
budget. That does not include more than a dozen fee supported jobs cut or some employees
who will be retiring early this year for a two-year health insurance incentive, some of whom
will not be replaced.
