13 Manatee Kiosks to
Be Installed in Area
The Crystal River National Wild-
life Refuge and the USFWS Jacksonville
Ecological Services staff along with the
services of Alchemy of Design (Portland,
Oregon) have designed new manatee in-
formation kiosks as a result of the estab-
lishment of the Kings Bay Manatee Ref-
uge on March 2012.
The new kiosks consist of three
panels mainly designed to inform visitors
of Kings Bay about the latest rules, speed
zones and manatee conservation measures
in Kings Bay.
These kiosks are meant to help
visitors understand the new rules and the
reasons behind them in order to prevent
manatee harassment and other infractions,
while educating them of the critical role
Kings Bay plays in the overall health of
the central Florida manatee population.
The panels are also designed to
attract visitors to explore Kings Bay wa-
ters and manatees by their aesthetic design
and colors, including the use of world
class manatee images taken by award win-
ning photographers such as Carol Grant
Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Detective John Bergen, who works the Pharmaceutical Diversion Division, stands in front of Walgreens Store in
and Wayne Lynch. The panels main top-
