Third Annual Kayak & Canoe Race
Join in the fun of the Third Annual Withlacoochee Wilderness Kayak & Canoe
Race and Rally,9:30AM, Saturday, March 19th. Hosted by Withlacoochee Area Residents,
Inc., all proceeds will help fund the efforts of the organization to protect and preserve
Florida’s Nature Coast and its’ water sources for the benefit of everyone.
The By-Pass Spillway Park located off CR 40 in Inglis will be the launch site for an
exciting trip down the river. The Race and River Rally will both start at the Inglis By Pass
Spillway of the Withlacoochee River and head west. The River Rally will travel approxi-
mately 5 miles and end at the Winding River Park in Yankeetown. The Racers will pass the
park and continue approximately one mile to the Yankeetown Marina, turn around and head
back to the Winding River Park, making an approximate7 mile trek.
Registration fees (recreational class only) received before March 12th are $35 canoe -
$25 kayak - $35 tandem kayak. Any entries after March 12th will be at the launch site only
(8am-9am) and are - $40 canoe - $30 kayak - $40 tandem kayak. These fees include entry,
race t-shirt (guaranteed only for pre-registration), fruit, water and catered lunch.

In years past, Helen Siegel donated many of her handmade quilts for fundraising
raffles at the Woman’s Club and this year will be no different. We were more than thrilled
when Helen’s husband Darryl, donated one of her coveted quilts to raffle. Helen, a long
time member of the Woman’s Club, was a master quilter and known worldwide for her
hand quilted beauties. She was recognized by AQS in American Quilters Magazine as one
of the top 24 quilters who have contributed to quilting in America. Her quilt “Trail Mix”
was completed in 2005 and is one of 150 or so that she completed in her 25 years of quilt-
ing. Another reason for you to attend the Salad Luncheon is to get your chances for this
cherished quilt, which will be on display. Tickets are $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00, drawing
will be held at our Scholarship Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, May 4th.
