What A Fair!
By Mike Moore,
Newscaster Photojournalist
Beautiful weather was the hallmark of this year’s annual Citrus County Fair
and Livestock Exhibition held at the Inverness fair grounds last week. Save for the
brisk and breezy evenings, the rest of the time the exhibitors and visitors were treated
to near picture-perfect conditions in which to enjoy the rides and Midway games, or
compete in the many different categories of home-grown fruits and vegetables, crafts,
arts, or livestock shows.
More than eighty young exhibitors representing the High School and Middle
School Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H clubs from around the county
brought animals to show and sell at the Friday night livestock sale. According to the
4-H and FFA leaders attending and supervising the kids at the show, the livestock
projects are “better than video games” in teaching lessons like responsibility, dedi-
cation to effort, and building a strong work ethic. With a wide sweep of a hand, they
were proud to show the buzz of activity; kids feeding, brushing, walking or cleaning
up after their animals; the lesson was hard to deny.
The arts and crafts buildings were also stuffed with projects made or cre-
ated by Citrus County locals. Everything from magnificent Bonsai specimens to jams
and jellies to oil paintings and photography was represented. Attendants were quick
to point to the amazing talent being exhibited. Between pencil drawings from 7 year
olds to photos of birds of prey, all sorts of subjects were captured and put to paper, Long arm of the Law: The long arm of the law grabs another law abiding citizen caught double parking on the

line and talking and gabbing the news of the day to each other.
