During the crash investigation, a second traffic crash occurred at the same location

involving a red 2006 Ford F-150 truck, driven by Stephen Brantley, 49, of Bell, FL, versus

an unoccupied City of Williston Fire Rescue Engine and a third vehicle, a 2015 Toyota

Camry, driven by Carol Jones, 56, Cross City, FL.

According to the press release by the FHP - on the second crash that occurred at

7:23 am - the Ford truck was traveling east on US-27A, in the outside lane, approaching

the active emergency scene, where the fire truck, with its emergency lights flashing, was

parked in the outside lane of the roadway to provide physical protection for the emergency

scene ahead. The Camry was traveling just in front of the Ford truck, in the inside lane.

Mr.Brantley, in the Ford truck, failed to notice the parked fire truck in the roadway ahead,

until it was too late to avoid a collision. Although Mr. Brantley attempted to swerve the

Ford truck toward the inside lane, to avoid hitting the fire truck, the front right of the Ford

truck struck the left rear of the fire truck. A large piece of debris, from the collision of the

Ford truck into the fire truck, struck the front right quarter panel of the Toyota Camry as

it passed the fire truck. Due to the collision, the fire truck was pushed slightly forward on

the roadway. The Ford truck began a counterclockwise rotation and slid across US-27A in

According to the Levy County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS), members

from multiple agencies worked together to assess all occupants of the vehicles in the first

crash, and any hazards. The agency reported "multiple ejections, five patients with serious



injuries, including multiple trauma alerts." All were transported by LCDPS ground units to



Shands. According to the LCDPS, in the second crash, Mr. Brantley required extrication

techniques to free him from the wreckage, and he was also transported by LCDPS ground

  

units to Shands with minor injuries.


