my way through the thick, sticky fog of hormones misting in the air, I keep to myself and tend
to my various endeavors; after years of pheromone abuse, I'm pretty much immune to it's
ravages. Not so my visiting young counterparts however; they get hit full bore on with no
warning and I laugh.
I laughed harder this week than I have in months at one hapless victim. I was behind
the wheel wearing my `chauffeurs' hat (one of many different ones to be sure) and had a load
of young ladies stopping to pick up the lad who would be staying with us for a day or two. As
he squeezed in to an already packed vehicle everyone exchanged pleasantries and we com-
menced. A nice young man, very polite and rather reserved, he was happy to be with us but
also blissfully unaware; three girls all his own age hopelessly out "manned" him.
It only took a mile. He started flirting. He started babbling. After 10 minutes he was
twitching and swooning; victim of the subtleties of the invisible chemical messengers con-
centrated in the car. It reminded me too much of a cockroach getting a dose of Raid. I laughed.
Poor little guy had no chance. It reminded me of when I was younger and uninitiated. Don't
get me wrong, I'm still affected by women as easily as any guy, it's just that nowadays the
pleasant experience suffered my by young friend isn't the same unbridled rush, it's more like
the spreading liquid warmth of a slug of Crown Royal.
I see men all the time acting all too manly. Every time I see a man sticking his chest out
and announcing how `manly' his is, I merely think of how very easily a woman can bring him
to his silly, manly knees. Currently there's a very powerful woman running for a job dominated
by powerful, manly men; I'm thinking how many men that might end up working for her won't
stand a chance. The thought makes me laugh.
