YT Election Comment – There is only one question on the ballot for the upcoming
Yankeetown Election. The question concerns paying the town officials. The question says
only that the officials may be paid but not necessarily that the council will do that. It places
a cap on the amount that the officials will be paid if the council decides to pay themselves.
The maximum amount is set at 10% of the amount paid to the Levy County Commission-
ers. This is a Town Charter Amendment. The ballot question is posted on the YT web site
if you wish to read it again.
Internationally Famous Artist Puts Yankeetown on the Map – Last week a water-
color painting workshop/class was held at the Lion’s Club in Yankeetown by artist Tony
Couch. Mr. Couch is a very renown and successful artist who has written a book “Watercol-
or: You Can Do It” and has produced 10 “how to” CDs on drawing, design and watercolor
painting tips and techniques, of which several are used in state educational systems across
the nation. He received a BA degree in Art from the University of Tampa and specializes in
landscapes in an almost impressionistic style that is stunning.
About 30 people, some locals but many were from all over the country who converged on
Yankeetown for 5 days to learn from the master in hopes of improving their own work. The
class, which was a blast, was organized by local citizen Patricia Candela who spent about
8 months planning and working on the class, leaving no detail unattended. There are some
thoughts that Ms. Candela contributed somewhat to the economy by bringing in visitors to
the area, and that maybe we should look into doing more of this sort of thing. It was cer-
tainly a very good experience for those of us that attended. Much Thanks to Ms. Candela
