The NEW water plant has supplied almost a million gallons of water to the distribu-
mander, William Crow Post 447,Inglis
tion system since coming online. It is a beautiful plant and though the plant cost over $5
million dollars, Yankeetown has gotten a hell of a deal because our part is only approximately
$750,000 or $900,000 including interest. Many people seem to have forgotten that we got one
of the LAST 85 percent grants for our plant.
An anonymous mailing called the No See'um News has for some reason decided that
the Spray field, used by the water plant for waste disposal, will not work. The Spray field has
been working just fine. We have currently put about 30,000 gallons onto the field with no
problems. Also the field was essentially tested even before start up with extensive watering
of the sod. The No See'um News gave no scientific or engineering reason as to why they
made this absurd claim, nor did they present any geological or engineering credentials. They
also seemed to be confused about the Reverse Osmosis system. It was always a fractional
treatment for the water even in the 2005 water facilities plan. The MIEX system which re-
placed the original Ultrafiltration unit, is used on 100 percent of the water to remove the
organics in our water to eliminate the disinfection byproducts which caused the Trihalomethane
problem.
The Grand Opening of the Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve was a huge success. The
rough approximation of turn out was about 350 people. The excellent planning exhibited by
Ellen Klee, head of the Friends of the WGP paid off. She and her team of "Preservateers"
seemed to have thought of every detail. Even the weather cooperated. They had invited a
host of governmental officials to come. Ms. Nancy Bell, Chairwoman of the Levy County
Commissioner attended as well as representatives from the Levy County School Board, South-
west Florida Water Management and the Florida Conservation Trust. The fact that the list of
those to Thank is way too long to print here is testimony that this was a real community effort.
The highlight of the Grand Opening Ceremony was the dedication of the future museum at the
park to Ms. Ellie Schiller. Ms. Schiller has been extremely instrumental in all aspects of the
WGP, beginning with the original team that wrote the application for the park, but without her,
the building transformation into a museum would have been only a dream. Good Night and
Good Luck, Dawn Marie Clary, Mayor of Yankeetown

The Gilley-Long-Osteen VFW Post 8698, Inglis was filled to capacity Saturday at a memorial
service to honor the life of Herbert "Clyde" Kirkland who passed on January 20, 2009. Clyde
has been a regular member at the post as well as Post Commander 1992-1993. His children
spoke of their father and his life, with daughter Sandy thanking the post for being a family and
home to Clyde who spent most of his time with these comrades. There is a tie that binds these
men and women for what they have done for their country. After the service there was an
emotional gun salute and taps before his ashes were spread. Food followed and it was a
reunion time for many as a lot of those returning have been away a long time but their roots
