Support group for Citrus County
Pet Patrol
Animal Shelter Starts Up
The Citrus County Animal Services Division shelter now has an official support
group. The animal shelter has utilized volunteers for some time, but now the new Friends
of Citrus County Animal Services (FOCCAS) has formalized the group’s volunteer efforts
into a non-profit organization.
FOCCAS was formed by volunteers dedicated to animal welfare, community in-
volvement, public education and increased adoption of shelter animals. In addition to look-
ing for new members who share its dedication, the group is seeking donations to fund its
work, as well as fund-raising opportunities.
Recognizing that the county shelter accepts all animals, that it has limited taxpayer
funds to take care of them, and that some animals need more than just basic care when they
arrive at the shelter, FOCCAS aims to be a voice for the shelter animals and to try to ensure
all get every opportunity available to them.
The group intends to raise funds to improve the quality of life of the animals in
general, to provide for more complicated and expensive medical treatment than the shelter
