the store and drive away at 8:53 pm in an early 1990s model white pickup truck with paint
missing on the rear fender. Still-shots from the surveillance videos were submitted for the
public's inspection, and on Nov. 20, a tip was submitted, identifying the suspect as Rusty
Boase.
Deputies went to Boase's
residence on Nov. 21, and
noted that the vehicle in the
driveway appeared the same as
the vehicle in the surveillance
video.
At first, Boase denied be-

ing anywhere near the place of
the Nov. 17 robbery, but when the detective
told Boase there was evidence he did it, and they would like to hear his story, he sighed,
dropped his head and stated, "It wasn t a real gun." The arrest affidavit described Boase s
account of what happened during the evening of the robbery: He drove to the Walmart store
to speak with a friend who owed him money, taking with him a toy gun he'd purchased over
the weekend to scare his friend, but he decided not to use it. He left Walmart and drove to
the first gas station he saw, which was the Chevron. He was wearing a bandanna he uses for
work and pulled it over his face when he entered the store. He pointed the gun at the clerk,
demanded the money, which was approximately $200, then left the store in his truck, drove
to another location to purchase oxycodone pills, and returned to his home. The following
day, he threw away all the clothing he wore during the robbery at the McDonalds restaurant
located in Inverness at Gulf to Lake Hwy. and Croft Ave. Boase told investigators he com-
mitted the robbery because of his addiction to pills, which he needs help for because he can
no longer control it.
