The arrest report also stated that further investigation by the detective revealed that the Gil-
land had been selling scrap steel to Inter-County Recycling for the past two months. The
owner of ICR stated that Gilland’s sale of steel to him matched exactly what Gulf Coast
Recycling had reported stolen.
Gilland was interviewed at his residence by the CCSO on Sept. 29. He said he’d
unlawfully removed about 20,000 pounds of the victim’s steel from the recycling container
and sold it to ICR and Taurus Metal Recyclers in Floral City for a total of $1,200.
Gilland went with the detective to the Sugarmill Woods Substation for further
questioning, and his statement was digitally recorded. Gilland was taken into custody and
transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility. “The defendant has been extremely
cooperative and showed sincere remorse in this investigation,” the report stated. “Due to
his cooperation, the defendant is to be released on his own recognizance.”
