believed Bobby Sweats version.
We were excited and anxious to enter the dreaded haunted house. As we drew closer to the
house our excitement waned. Our laughter disappeared and all of us became more serious. To
make this Halloween adventure even more daunting was the full moon that was rising just
above the tree line of Schofield's orange grove just across the street from the haunted house.
As we finally came to the front yard of this monstrous two story house the moon cast sinister
shadows on the old building.
We were about to turn back when Gieger stopped us. "Do you want to be the laughing
stock of Inverness? Let's get it over with. There aint no such a thing as Ghost", Gieger said.
We entered a window that was unlocked and slowly crept into the living room. The house
was indeed scary but, by this time our courage was building. We decided to go upstairs, to the
scene of the supposed grisly crime. We were huddled together and creeping up the stairs
when a blood curdling scream pierced the air and Steve Spivey tore past us like a scalded
birddog. He ran out of the house and every one of us was right behind him. We didn't stop
running until we were at the McLeod house which is about two miles from the Richburg
house. We were panting and totally winded. After a time Gieger asked Spivey what he saw. "A
ghost", is all he would say.

A few days later we pieced together what happened. Spivey sneaked ahead of the rest of

inches to 6 feet tall, between 180 and 200 pounds, wearing a straw hat. He also had two or

was attached to the closet door and he did see a ghost. Spivey was dressed in a ghost
jeans. He's believed to be driving a black sports car, unknown model.

And in turn he nearly scared the rest of our ghost busting party to death.
