Dunnellon pedestrian killed by vehicle
A traffic crash in Marion County, Oct. 14, took the life of a pedestrian, 48 year-old
Pamela Mattoon LaLonde of Dunnellon. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the inci-
dent occurred on U.S. Hwy. 41, 1 mile north of SW 25th Place as William Benson Head, 50,
of Dunnellon was traveling north on U.S. 41, driving a 1986 GMC 1500 and Ms. LaLond
was on the east shoulder of U.S .41, attempting to cross the road to the west shoulder.
The report stated that LaLonde hesitated, due to Head’s vehicle approaching, and
that Head steered to the right, causing the tires on the right side of his vehicle to travel onto
the east shoulder. Head applied the brakes in an attempt to avoid Ms LaLonde, but the front
right of the vehicle struck her. After the impact, LaLonde came to rest on the east shoulder,
and the vehicle was driven to a controlled stop with the right tires on the east shoulder and
the left tires within the northbound travel lane of U.S. 41. LaLonde was transported to Tri
County Hospital in Williston and was pronounced deceased at 10:32 a.m. by Dr. Martin.
The report stated that Mr. Head was wearing a seatbelt, and unspecified charges are pending.
