“Regressive Society” item:
Public Notice of Inglis Lock closure...
When my husband,Tom, and I
are conversing, a familiar comment he
often makes that would leave anyone but
me in the dark, is “Regressive Society,”
always in a sardonic tone. “Regressive
Society” is the name of a book he claims
he’ll write some day. When Tom says
“Regressive Society,” it means the topic
we’re discussing should make it into his
book, and it’s always an issue connected
with government or politics that is coun-
terproductive to a productive society!
A recent item that earned the “Re-
gressive Society” comment is a letter we,
and many others, received this past Sat-
urday, October 10, from the Department
of the Army, Jacksonville District Corps
of Engineers, entitled “DEPARTMENT
OF THE ARMY NOTIFICATION OF
PUBLICATION OF PUBLIC NOTICE.”
The letter starts out, “Dear Sir or Madam:

Corps of Engineers as a property owner
