Citrus Ave. and W. Orchard St. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Patrick Vander-
bery, 23, of Crystal River, was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram (vehicle 1), traveling north on N.
Citrus Ave., approaching W. Orchard St. Harriett Boens, 69, of Crystal River, was driving a
2011 Kia Sorrento (vehicle 2), traveling south on N. Citrus Ave., approaching W. Orchard
St. Michael McDonald, 54, of Dunnellon, was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram truck (vehicle 3),
stopped behind another vehicle - that was not involved in the crash - in the northbound lane
of N. Citrus Ave., waiting for that vehicle to make a left turn onto W. Orchard St.
For unknown reasons, Mr. Vanderbery (vehicle 1) failed to recognize the stopped
traffic in time to safely control his vehicle and made an evasive lane change into the south-
bound lane to avoid a collision with Mr. McDonald (vehicle 3). As a result, the front right
of Vanderbery s vehicle collided with the left rear of McDonald s vehicle, which he (Mr.
McDonald) managed to bring to a controlled stop.
Ms. Boens (vehicle 2) had reached the intersection as Vanderbery (Vehicle 1) pro-
ceeded into the southbound lane, and as a result, the front left of Vanderbery s truck collided
