Remembering the Past
This old photo dates back to February 1965 and the construction of the Cross Florida Barge
Canal, Inglis. This drag line was off loaded from a barge on the Withlacoochee River onto the
Shrimp Landing
south bank opposite the old Florida Power Plant in Inglis which today is a line training facil-
ity for Duke Energy. The giant machine was walked down the power lines to the barge canal
where it was put to work. The drag line was 200 tons with an 80 foot boom and an 8 cubic
